What is a Guardian Home?

A Guardian Home is an arrangement where a family agrees to care for one of our future breeding dogs in their home as their forever pet. In this program, the dog remains part of our breeding program for a certain number of litters or for a set period. Once the dog retires from breeding, full ownership transfers to the Guardian family, and the dog remains with them for the rest of its life as a cherished family member.

Step 1: Becoming a Guardian Family

The journey starts with selecting Guardian families who can provide a safe, loving home for our dogs. This means having a secure yard, time to care for a dog, and a genuine love for pets. If you’re ready to welcome a Doodle into your family, you could be the perfect match!

Step 2: Raising Your Guardian Doodle

As a Guardian, you’ll raise your Goldendoodle as your own, providing daily care, socialization, and training. You handle routine care like feeding and vet visits, while we cover all breeding-related expenses. It’s a great way to enjoy a fantastic dog with our full support!

Step 3: Breeding and Full Ownership

For breeding, your dog will stay with us briefly and then return to you. Females usually have up to 4 litters before retiring, while males may be in the program longer. Afterward, we spay/neuter the dog and transfer full ownership to you, making them a permanent part of your family!

KZ Doodles covers all expenses related to breeding, including health testing, stud fees, and whelping care. The Guardian family is responsible for routine veterinary care, food, grooming, and day-to-day expenses.

3. What happens if I decide I no longer want to be part of the Guardian Home Program?

We understand that life circumstances can change. If at any point you are unable to continue with the program, we ask that you notify us immediately. Depending on the situation, the dog may return to KZ Doodles or be placed with another suitable Guardian family.

4. Can I take my Guardian dog on vacations or trips?

Absolutely! Your Guardian Doodle is part of your family and should enjoy life as a regular pet. However, if breeding is scheduled or the dog is close to whelping, we may need you to adjust your plans to ensure the dog’s safety and well-being.

5. What are the basic requirements to become a Guardian Home?

We look for families who:

Live within a reasonable distance from Boise, Idaho.
Have a fenced yard and a safe environment.
Are committed to training and socializing the dog.
Can provide regular veterinary care and maintain a healthy lifestyle for the dog.
