We’re here to guide you through exactly what to expect during those important first 90 days—day one to day ninety—with your new Goldendoodle. With a little preparation, some patience, and a whole lot of love, you’ll set your pup up for a happy, confident life by your side.

Days 1–30: Settling In

This is the honeymoon stage—but it’s also full of learning curves! Your puppy is getting used to their new environment, your family, and daily routines. You’ll be focused on potty training, crate training, gentle socialization, and helping your pup feel safe and loved. Expect lots of naps, sweet snuggles, and the occasional “oops” moment.

Days 31–60: Growing Confidence

Now that your pup is feeling more secure, you’ll notice a boost in energy and curiosity. This is a great time to introduce basic training like “sit,” “stay,” and leash walking. Socialization expands too—think new sounds, car rides, new people, and safe doggy meetups. You’ll start seeing more of their personality shine through every day.

Days 61–90: Gaining Independence

By this stage, your puppy starts looking (and acting) more like a young dog than a baby. They’re testing boundaries a bit more, responding better to training, and becoming a real part of your family’s rhythm. This is also when consistency really pays off—your earlier efforts with routines and structure start turning into habits that stick.

Before Your Puppy Comes Home: Get Set for Success

Bringing a new puppy home starts before they even walk through the door. Here’s what you’ll want to have ready:

  • A cozy crate and soft bedding
  • Stainless steel food and water bowls
  • High-quality puppy food (we’ll tell you what they’ve been eating here)
  • Puppy-safe toys for chewing and play
  • Collar, leash, and ID tag
  • Enzyme cleaner for accidents (they happen!)
  • Baby gates or a playpen to create safe zones

Bonus tip: Set up a quiet area in your home just for your puppy. This helps ease the transition and gives them a place to relax and recharge.

What to Expect: Days 1–30

Settling in and finding your rhythm

Your puppy’s first few weeks at home will be full of discovery—for both of you! During this time, your pup is getting used to their new environment, new people, and daily routines.

Focus on:

  • House training: Take your pup out frequently and praise them like crazy when they go potty outside.

  • Crate training: This helps with both housebreaking and giving them a safe space.

  • Bonding: Play, cuddle, and start learning each other’s personalities.

  • Basic routines: Feed at the same times each day, stick to regular nap and play cycles, and begin gentle introductions to grooming.

Puppies at this stage need a lot of sleep—up to 18 hours a day. That’s totally normal!

 

What to Expect: Days 31–60

Confidence building and early training

Now that your pup is feeling more comfortable, it’s time to gently stretch their comfort zone.

This is the ideal time to:

  • Start basic training: Think sit, stay, come, and leash walking. Keep sessions short and fun!

  • Introduce new people and environments (safely): Carry them on walks, invite friends over, or go for car rides.

  • Begin socialization: Calm, controlled playdates with healthy, vaccinated dogs and exposure to different sights and sounds will go a long way.

You’ll also likely see a little more independence (and some mischief) around this time—don’t worry, it’s normal. Stay consistent, patient, and positive.

 

What to Expect: Days 61–90

Big leaps in learning and behavior

By now, your puppy is starting to grow into their personality and learn the flow of your household. You’ll notice:

  • More energy: Plan for daily playtime and mental stimulation (puzzle toys are great!).

  • Improved potty habits: Fewer accidents and better signaling when they need to go.

  • Stronger training foundation: Continue to reinforce commands and practice leash manners.

  • Deeper bond: Your doodle is learning to trust you fully—and it shows!

This is also a great time to start thinking about formal puppy classes or training sessions if you haven’t already.
